LGU’s latest Anti-Black Racism discussion set for June 15

TORONTO — Let’s Get Uncomfortable (LGU) will be hosting the latest instalment of its ‘Confronting Anti-Black Racism’ series, which will examine the changes seen in the industry nearly a year after its inaugural discussion on the matter.

Titled ‘Confronting Anti-Black Racism in Travel & Tourism: One Year Later,’ the virtual event will take place on June 15 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. ET and will be hosted by LGU’s Shalene Dudley, founder of Latitude Concierge Travels. It is open to all travel professionals.

Together with Veranda Adkins, co-founder of Association of Black Travel Professionals, Elizabeth Buchanan, founder of Paradise Weddings and Linda Kelly, Travel Product Specialist – Flight Centre Americas, Dudley will call on those in the industry who have stepped up – and those who have stayed silent – during a one-hour conversation about the crucial role anti-racism will play in the future of travel & tourism.

The discussion will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A session. Questions can be submitted to letsgetuncomfortableevent@gmail.com.

Proceeds from the event will go toward compensating panelists. Ticket prices are on a sliding scale, with three options to choose from:

  • Free, for individuals in a restrictive financial position
  • $15, for individuals looking to contribute to the cause
  • $50, for individuals and organizations able to make a more substantial investment

Employers and managers are encouraged to buy tickets in bulk to facilitate team participation. Those interested in being silent sponsors can reach out to the LGU team directly at letsgetuncomfortableevent@gmail.com.

Click here to register for the event. The invitation link will be sent to attendees 24 hours prior to the event.
