The year’s best oddball stories: Animal Edition

TORONTO — When it comes to the best oddball stories in the news, animals were the runaway winners in 2019, with everything from a dancing alpaca to a fish with a human face dominating headlines.

We couldn’t help but laugh out loud, cry real tears or cower in fright after reading some of the year’s most unforgettable news stories. For example, who could forget the dog in an Ikea bag on the New York City subway? Or what about the rogue bat who wreaked havoc on a Spirit Airlines flight, causing passengers to duck out of the way and run for the hills (or, in this case, the bathrooms)?

And sometimes, the LOLs weren’t brought on by the animals themselves but rather their by-product. We raised some major eyebrows over this story about moose poop in a bag, and let’s not forget the 30 pounds of rat meat recovered by U.S. Customs Border Protection.

It was definitely a wacky year in the news, we can’t wait to see what 2020 will bring! But for now, here are more of our favourite animal stories in 2019:
