PLAY to launch flights between Hamilton and Frankfurt

HAMILTON — Low-cost Icelandic airline PLAY has announced new service between Hamilton and Frankfurt starting this December.

The first flight from John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM) to Frankfurt, Germany will depart Dec. 14, 2023 and will operate four to five times a week throughout the winter.

To celebrate the launch, PLAY is offering a limited-time flight sale with tickets starting at $259, exclusive of taxes and fees. The sale runs from July 27 to Aug. 10, 2023, for travel between January and March 2024. For complete sale details go to

“We are delighted to be able to add more destinations to our transatlantic route network at a time when demand in North America for flights to Europe is high,” said Birgir Jónsson, CEO of PLAY. “Revenues from passengers coming from North America are much higher than before, making it a great time to add Frankfurt as a destination. With 10 aircraft in our fleet, which is now the youngest and most modern fleet in Europe, we are in a great position to expand our route network and to keep offering competitive prices to passengers.”

Cole Horncastle, Executive Managing Director of YHM, added: “The addition of Frankfurt to PLAY’s extensive network of European destinations is exciting for Hamilton International. It not only strengthens business ties between our regions, but also enhances tourism opportunities for travellers seeking a seamless connection into Germany via Iceland.”

PLAY officially launched daily flights from YHM to Iceland in June 2023, marking its first destination in Canada and its fifth route in North America. Travelweek was onboard the inaugural flight. To read our coverage, click here
