TORONTO — WestJet has suspended several U.S. routes from its future schedules.
According to reports, the removals include Ft. Lauderdale (FLL), Kauai (LIH) and Orlando (MCO) from Vancouver.
Also impacted: WestJet’s Las Vegas flights from Toronto, Regina and Saskatoon, as well asEdmonton-Abbotsford, and Toronto-Kelowna.
There are also reports that WestJet has suspended the following flights from late October 2026 through late April or May 2027: Vancouver-Atlanta; Vancouver-Los Angeles; Calgary-Chicago O’Hare; and Edmonton-Ottawa.
Travelweek reached out to WestJet to confirm the changes.
“WestJet has suspended several routes for the 2026/2027 winter travel season. Decisions to adjust our network are never made lightly, and we understand this may be disappointing news for our guests and the communities we serve,” WestJet spokesperson Julia Kaiser told Travelweek.
“We continually evaluate our network to ensure we are deploying aircraft where there is strongest demand and long-term sustainability,” she added.
Kaiser said WestJet has provided impacted guests “with as much advance notice as possible” either directly, or through their travel advisor.
She said WestJet remains committed to providing access to many of these destinations with continued service via its global hub at YYC, as well as through codeshare and interline partners.
Canadian carriers have been cutting back transborder capacity for more than a year amid weaker demand from Canada. While year-over-year Canada-to-U.S. numbers are improving slightly, they’re still down significantly compared to pre-‘Elbows Up’. Yesterday came word that Air Canada is once again scaling back flights to the U.S. amid high jet fuel costs and lower demand for trips south of the border.
