Bahia Principe to invest $60 million in resort upgrades

MIAMI — Grupo Piñero, parent company of Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, is doubling down on its commitment to the guest experience by investing US$60 million towards its resorts in Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

The investment will focus on renovating its Living Resorts division, which comprises hotels, residential units and golf courses that operate under the Bahia Principe brand.

A total of $40 million will go towards upgrades at Bahia Principe Grand Tulum that will highlight the new ‘Origin’ concept, which pays homage to the Mayan community through traditional architecture and textures. The revamp will include remodelled villas, Premium Superior rooms and Suites for up to 4-5 guests, as well as a new swimming pool featuring Mayan symbolism throughout.

The remaining $20 million will be allocated toward hotel facilities and residential complexes in the D.R. and Mexico, as well as the brand’s golf course in Riviera Maya, which recently entered a partnership with Professional Golfers Association of America (USPGA).

On what the investment will mean to the hotel brand, Encarna Piñero, CEO of Grupo Piñero, said: “Our strategic approach to renovating our hotels, residences and golf courses will help us surpass guest expectations in a hospitality landscape that is becoming increasingly competitive each year. In 2020, we will work toward elevating the consumer experience and to maintain our position as a leading all-inclusive brand in Mexico, the Caribbean and Spain.”
