OTTAWA — NEXUS applicants will have less time to complete their enrolment interviews starting in 2027, as the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) restore the program’s original two-year deadline.
Effective April 1, 2027, applicants who receive conditional approval must schedule their NEXUS enrolment interview within two years of their approval date. The current five-year window was introduced temporarily in response to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and is being reduced as more interview capacity becomes available.
Applicants conditionally approved on or after April 1, 2027, will have two years to schedule their interview. Those approved before that date will remain subject to the five-year deadline, or April 1, 2029, whichever comes first.
Applicants who are already waiting for an interview are advised to book as soon as possible to avoid having their applications expire.
Following conditional approval, applicants must complete interviews with both the CBSA and CBP before receiving their NEXUS card. The Canadian portion takes place at a NEXUS enrolment centre, while the U.S. portion can be completed at a CBP enrolment centre or through Enrolment on Arrival.
Interviews include identity verification, fingerprinting and questions from officers from both agencies.
