CALGARY — WestJet has posted next steps for Cuba-booked passengers, now that the airline has announced that it too has suspended operations to the island indefinitely.
WestJet’s announcement follows similar updates from Air Canada and Transat, as well as ACV, Sunwing Vacations Group and major hotel companies including Blue Diamond Resorts Cuba, Iberostar and Melia.
“Following a review of the current operating environment in Cuba, WestJet airlines has made the difficult decision to indefinitely suspend all flying until further notice,” said WestJet in a post.
“As the former leading Canadian airline in Cuba, WestJet recognizes this news is meaningful for guests and tourism partners. The airline remains optimistic about the island’s path to long-term recovery and its return as one of Canadian’s favourite leisure destinations.”
WestJet said travellers with current air-only travel reservations for this winter will be notified of the flight suspensions as early as June 21, and will be provided with refund and change options.
Travellers with existing vacation package bookings with Sunwing, WestJet Vacations and WestJet Vacations Québec will be contacted directly and provided with options, including rebooking to an alternative destination or cancelling for a full refund.
