Woman gives birth on plane, names baby after airline

TORONTO — We’ve heard of celebrities giving their babies unorthodox names (think Apple, Zuma and Pilot Inspektor). But now, a woman who gave birth onboard a Jetstar Asia flight is giving celebrities a run for their money.

CNN reports that the woman unexpectedly went into labour during the three-hour flight from Singapore to Myanmar last week. According to Jetstar Asia’s Facebook page, the 6 pound, 7 ounce baby boy was safely delivered on the plane by a team of three doctors and crew after landing in Yangon on April 22.

“Both mother and son are in good health and have been discharged from the local hospital in Yangon,” the airline said in a Facebook post.

Crew member Saw Ler Htu has been singled out by Jetstar for his “exercised utmost care and concern for the passenger, calling for medical assistance onboard the aircraft when required.” He even visited the mother in the hospital afterward with gifts.

The mother was so impressed by the way Jetstar handled the whole situation that she went so far as to name her new bundle of joy Saw Jet Star, after the airline.

Jetstar has said it will be donating around $744 worth of baby supplies to the family.
