Virgin Voyages unveils new DJ residencies, record shop & karaoke lounge

TORONTO — As a nod to its Virgin brand’s musical roots, Virgin Voyages has announced new DJ residencies, a record shop and a Japanese-style karaoke lounge onboard its first ship, the Scarlet Lady.

Calling the new music experience a “curated sonic identity”, the cruise line said it will focus on electronic music but will also include other music genres to ensure that “all Sailors will find a sound they love.”

Due to set sail for its inaugural season in 2020, Scarlet Lady will be equipped with an on-ship record shop called Voyage Vinyl, a private karaoke and gaming lounge called The Groupie, and curated music and performances by up-and-coming artists and music trendsetters.

Here are some highlights:

  • Voyage Vinyl: This new record shop aboard Scarlet Lady will feature personal listening stations, limited-edition vinyl collections with playlists by Virgin Voyages’ past and present DJs, and a performance spot for live DJ sets by Scarlet Lady’s resident DJs. Guests can also purchase music magazines, headphones and record players.
  • The Groupie: The onboard bookable karaoke, gaming and movie lounge has been designed as a modernist take on a Japanese-style karaoke room for guests to sing along to their favourite tunes with friends.

  • New DJ Residency additions: In addition to the previously announced DJ residency with Mark Ronson, Virgin Voyages is adding multi-platinum chart-topping artist, DJ, producer/remixer MK (Marc Kinchen), as well as Grammy-nominated electronic music duo Sofi Tukker to its roster. The residency program will feature performances on ship, in-port destinations and at The Beach Club at Bimini.
  • WhiteLabel Creative: Virgin Voyages’ Creative Collective is expanding from design, food and entertainment to include WhiteLabel Creative, a group of music industry insiders that specializes in sensory branding and cultural programming. It will be responsible for developing the background music across the ship and securing DJs for The Beach Club at Bimini’s residency program.
