TORONTO — The leader in print for the Canadian travel trade, Travelweek is now the leader in social media as well. This month the number of Travelweek’s Facebook followers topped 3,500 – the first Canadian travel trade media to hit that mark.
Not only is Travelweek the leader on Facebook, it also dominates on Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn, with significantly more followers across all social media platforms than any other travel trade media in Canada. But it’s really engagement with the community that counts, rather than just followers, and Travelweek also has a leadership position in clicks, shares, comments, re-posts and more.
“We always led the industry in engagement on our Facebook page, and last month we also saw that reflected in followers with 491 travel agents and industry professionals joining us in a single month,” said Michael Smith, Digital Product & Content Manager, Travelweek. “It’s a great platform for us to post breaking news, as well some of our more light-hearted stories and photos from trade events that give agents a break from their work day.”
The Travelweek YouTube page has received 33,000 video views and Facebook has seen 19,500 video views. “This demonstrates that Travelweek’s formula of short, professionally edited videos are sitting well with the travel agent audience,” said Smith.
“Instead of doing one long-form interview, we decided we would do three short videos in one sitting. We find keeping the videos short with a professional look makes the videos more digestible and it’s been reflected in our statistics.”
