Ski resorts gain in off season with expanded mountain biking, weddings

Ski areas in North America — many of which have expanded their summer and fall offerings to zip-lining, mountain coasters and festivals — are reporting some gains in revenue and visits over last year.

Weddings at resorts also have become more popular.

Canada’s Blue Mountain and Tremblant are awash with visitors enjoying the fall colours, and are world leaders in off season activities with zip-lining, mountain biking, golfing, hiking, festivals and much more.

Loon Mountain Resort in New Hampshire, for example, reported revenue up 3 per cent over last summer and fall. The resort cites strong business from the gondola skyrides and weddings, as well as a record year for the New Hampshire Highland Games & Festival in September.
