Keeping the trade up to date - and dreaming - with Germany & the GNTO

GNTO reappoints VoX International in Canada as demand for Germany climbs

TORONTO — The German National Tourist Office (GNTO) is re-establishing its presence in Canada, reappointing VoX International Inc. as its agency of record effective April 1, 2026.

The move marks the official return of in-market representation following a temporary pause and comes as Germany sees renewed momentum among Canadian travellers.

“Canada is a highly valued and resilient source market for Germany, and we are very pleased to re-establish our local presence,” said Petra Hedorfer, CEO of the German National Tourist Board in Frankfurt, Germany. “With strong growth, high visitor engagement and a deep cultural affinity between our two countries, this is the right moment to further strengthen our relationships with Canadian travellers and industry partners, and to inspire new journeys to Germany.”

VoX International will support GNTO’s integrated strategy in Canada, which combines media relations, trade initiatives and partnerships aimed at driving visitation and awareness.

“We are delighted to welcome GNTO back to our portfolio,” said Susan Webb, President, VoX International Inc. “With strong market momentum and clear growth potential, this is an exciting time to re-engage with industry partners and media, and to position Germany as a must-visit destination for Canadians.”

PERIOD OF GROWTH

The renewed mandate coincides with continued growth from the Canadian market. In 2025, overnight stays from Canada reached 748,581, surpassing the pre-pandemic benchmark of 735,000 recorded in 2019.

Over a longer period, Germany has seen steady gains, with overnight stays by Canadians increasing 15% between 2015 and 2025.

Canadian travellers are also delivering strong economic impact. Visitor spending reached €1.1 billion in 2025, while average length of stay climbed to 11.9 nights, underscoring a high level of engagement with the destination.

BROKJANS APPOINTED DIRECTOR

With its renewed presence, GNTO will lead marketing and public relations efforts in Canada, focusing on strengthening Germany’s profile through targeted media outreach, travel trade engagement and strategic partnerships.

Anja Brokjans has been appointed Director, Marketing & Sales for the German National Tourist Office in Canada. She brings extensive experience in international destination marketing, media relations and trade development, and previously led GNTO’s representation in the Canadian market.

“I am thrilled to resume our work with the German National Tourist Office and to continue building meaningful connections between Canada and Germany,” said Anja Brokjans. “There is a strong affinity for Germany among Canadian travellers, and we look forward to showcasing the country’s diverse experiences – from culture and heritage to nature, sustainability and year-round travel opportunities.”
