NewLeaf suspends service to four cities; discounts October flights

TORONTO — NewLeaf is temporarily axing service to and from Regina, Saskatoon, Victoria and Kamloops. Flights for these cities will halt in early November and resume in December.

Meanwhile the company is said to be eyeing expansion into the U.S., and adding more flights to other routes in Canada. “With the core route network in place, NewLeaf and Flair will add more flights to more Canadian, and U.S. destinations. Announcements on the expanded service will be forth coming in the next few weeks,” said a statement from the company.

NewLeaf added that the response to its new service and low fares has been “overwhelming”.

NewLeaf’s recently released core domestic schedule now allows passengers to book flights until the end of April 2017.

After a rocky start and accusations of operating without a license – NewLeaf in fact offers flights operated by Flair Airlines, a licensed carrier using B737-400s – NewLeaf bookings finally got off the ground on July 25.

NewLeaf’s original network included 12 destinations: Edmonton, Victoria, Kamloops, Fort St. John, Moncton, Abbotsford, Halifax, Hamilton/Toronto, Kelowna, Regina, Saskatoon and Winnipeg.

A new sale, launched yesterday, offers 50% discounts off base fares for October flights booked by Sept. 20. “We are changing the way people think about travel,” said NewLeaf President & CEO Jim Young. “Our fares make it affordable for people to travel for quick getaways and explore this amazing country. To say ‘thank you’ to Canadians for supporting NewLeaf, we are offering 50% off all our October flights for a limited time. So go home for Thanksgiving!”
