Skål Toronto marks 70 years on the fairways with milestone golf tournament

TORONTO — Seven decades of golf, friendship and travel industry networking were celebrated as Skål Toronto hosted its 70th Annual Golf Tournament on Aug. 13 at Royal Woodbine Golf Club.

The milestone tournament brought together Skål members and friends from across the travel, tourism and hospitality community for a day that combined friendly competition with the networking and camaraderie for which the organization is known.

The day got underway with an 8 a.m. shotgun tee-off. Golfers later gathered for a reception and lunch.

Reaching the 70th edition was particularly significant for Skål Toronto, which dates back to June 4, 1956.

The golf tournament has become one of the club’s signature traditions, providing an opportunity for industry colleagues to reconnect outside the office while strengthening relationships across sectors of Canada’s travel industry.

It’s a day that’s all about golf, networking, camaraderie and fun.

The event also continued Skål Toronto’s support for an important community cause. A portion of tournament proceeds was earmarked for Toronto’s Daily Bread Food Bank, the club’s charity of choice and an organization it has supported for several years.

Organizers encouraged the industry to get involved in numerous ways, from individual and foursome registrations to hole and specialty sponsorships, lunch attendance and donations to the tournament’s auctions and raffles. Prized items up for grabs included hotel stays, airline tickets, cruises, car rentals, travel vouchers and more.

The longevity of the tournament speaks to the strong relationships at the heart of Toronto’s travel community. Skål Toronto president Susan Webb says the tournament’s history “is a pretty special legacy.” The annual event attracts dozens of golfers as well as additional guests for the post-golf luncheon. Last week’s 70th tournament underscored the legacy, bringing the industry together once again around a tradition that mixes business, friendship and a little competition on the course.

The tournament’s anniversary comes during a milestone year for Skål Toronto itself. The club is also marking its 70th anniversary in 2026. A reunion at The Boulevard Club took place back in May, plus there’s an anniversary celebration luncheon happening this October.
