TORONTO — nicko cruises is introducing a fuel surcharge on river sailings as rising global fuel prices continue to impact operating costs across the cruise sector.
Due to what the company describes as “the current geopolitical situation,” fuel prices have increased significantly worldwide, creating additional cost pressures for operators.
“Our itineraries are deliberately budgeted tightly, meaning we cannot absorb these exceptional additional costs entirely ourselves. We therefore have no choice but to pass on a portion of the drastically increased fuel costs to our customers in accordance with our Terms and Conditions,” the company stated.
For river cruises, the surcharge will be €8 per person per night. It will apply to departures beginning May 1, 2026, and will remain in effect for all river cruises departing up to Dec. 31, 2026. The surcharge will apply to both new and existing bookings.
The announcement comes alongside continued expansion of the brand’s trade presence in Canada, where nicko cruises is represented by Discover the World Canada.
Travel agency registrations are now open through the cruise line’s Travel Agency Booking Hub, a dedicated platform designed to streamline reservations for advisors.
The nicko cruises river fleet includes 21 four- and five-star ships sailing major European waterways such as the Danube, Rhine, Douro, Rhône, Saône and Seine. The line offers more than 10 itineraries on the Danube and 11 on the Rhine alone, with options ranging from short seasonal departures to longer themed sailings including Advent cruises, New Year departures and week-long river journeys.
