TORONTO — Sweat pants are finally getting their due as a legitimate item of clothing. They even have a day named after them.
To celebrate International Sweatpants Day on Jan. 21, two of Canada’s biggest companies – Air Canada and Roots – partnered to surprise more than 250 passengers with a pair of sweatpants and matching hoodie.
The gift set, which also included a handcrafted, made-in-Canada Roots leather passport holder, was handed out on Air Canada’s longest nonstop flight from Vancouver to Melbourne.
“Air Canada is thrilled to partner with Roots to surprise our customers on this special flight, the longest nonstop flight in our network with iconic Canadian apparel,” said Andy Shibata, Managing Director, Brand at Air Canada. “What better way to celebrate International Sweatpants Day than by crossing six time zones in Air Canada’s state-of-the-art Dreamliner aircraft wearing a comfy and stylish pair of classic Roots sweatpants?”
Karen Zuccala, Roots Vice President of Marketing, added: “We believe that wherever your journey takes you, travel in comfort and style. This is one of the many exiting initiatives we have planned to continue to share our brand with the world.”
To further mark the day, the two companies have launched the Roots x Air Canada contest. Entrants have the chance to win two Air Canada roundtrip airfares to any destination in Canada, as well as two Roots comfort and style travel packages containing Roots sweats, a small Banff Bag and more. The contest is open from Jan. 21-25.
