Carnival Fantasy being moved to Miami from South Carolina

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Carnival Cruise Lines vessel Fantasy, which has been based in South Carolina for almost five years, is being repositioned and is being replaced with another vessel of the same size.

The cruise line announced on Tuesday that, beginning next February, the Carnival Ecstasy will be based in Charleston making four and seven-day cruises from the city. The Fantasy will begin operating out of Miami next year.

It’s been almost five years since the Fantasy was based in Charleston, giving the city a year-round cruise industry. Before that, ships made port calls, but none were based in the city.

Since the Fantasy arrived, there has been an ongoing debate and legal fight over plans by South Carolina Ports Authority to build a new passenger cruise terminal in Charleston.
