Billy Bishop Airport announces “busiest summer in history”

TORONTO – Toronto’s island airport has had had one heck of a summer, with reports of more than 782,000 passengers arriving and departing throughout the summer months.

According to PortsToronto, owners and operators of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, 268,584 people travelled through the airport in August, marking not only its busiest month to date but also its busiest summer in history. Both Porter Airlines and Air Canada contributed to the high passenger numbers.

“With two award-winning commercial carriers with direct service to more than 20 destinations in Canada and the U.S., and connections to 80 international destinations via our airlines’ networks, Billy Bishop Airport is an important gateway for business and leisure travellers alike,” said Gene Cabral, Executive Vice President, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and PortsToronto.

Billy Bishop Airport experienced record-breaking monthly passengers levels, recording 255,906 passengers in June, 257,969 passengers in July, and 268,584 passengers in August. The airport’s successful summer is consistent with the steady growth experienced at the airport since 2006 under its managed growth strategy to ensure balance along the waterfront.
