Arctic Kingdom adds baby harp seal photo safari in Iles de la Madeleine

IQALUIT — Land-based Arctic adventure specialist Arctic Kingdom has announced its dates and rates for 2015 with two new safaris and one new getaway.

The new five-day Baby Harp Seal Photo Safari in Les Îles de la Madeleine, Quebec offers three full days on the ice, from sunrise to sunset, photographing the world and lives of baby harp seal pups. The safari will be led by Mario Cyr, a professional photographer and videographer who has spent more time photographing and filming the harp seals of the Magdalen Islands than any other notable photographer.

Available 2015 dates are from Feb. 23 – 27, Feb. 27 – March 3 and March 3 – 7 and all are open for bookings. The price of $6,995 per person plus 13% HST includes return transfers from Îles-de-la-Madeleine airport, one night at Auberge La Salicorne, three nights accommodation aboard the Jean Mathieu, all meals upon arrival at Auberge La Salicorne and while aboard the Jean Mathieu, and a Mustang Floater Suit for duration of stay aboard vessel. The safari is open to only six participants.

Also new for 2015 is Walking with Grizzly Bears, a five-night safari with only one date scheduled for Aug. 1-6. Led by wilderness guide Phil Timpany, a group of seven participants will spend days in the untouched wilderness in northern British Columbia literally walking and sitting with grizzly bears in their natural habitat and enjoying spectacular up-close photographic opportunities.

The price of $6,995 per person plus 5% GST includes return transfers from Whitehorse airport, two nights accommodation in Whitehorse with a city tour, transportation to the remote Grizzly Bear Cabins (shuttle bus and helicopter), four nights accommodation at the cabins, all meals and all necessary permits and licenses.

Arctic Kingdom is also offering a two to seven night getaway to see the northern lights. Based at a remote Northern Lights Fly-In Lodge just outside of Yellowknife, guests can experience the magic of the northern lights as they dance across the night sky while also enjoying a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, dog sledding and snowmobiling, depending on the season. Summer, autumn and winter packages start at $1,100 per person plus 13% taxes and 10% gratuities with a choice in either accommodation in the main lodge or in private cabins.
