Etihad expands Canadian network with four weekly Calgary flights

ABU DHABI — Etihad Airways has launched the first nonstop flights between Calgary and Abu Dhabi, opening a new direct connection between Western Canada and the Gulf region.

The inaugural EY29 flight arrived at Calgary International Airport to a sold-out welcome. The launch was marked by a welcome event attended by representatives from the Government of Alberta, airport and tourism partners.

The new service operates four times weekly on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, connecting Calgary with Abu Dhabi and Etihad’s wider network of destinations across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), India, Asia and Africa. The route offers travellers a direct option to reach the UAE capital, while providing connections to destinations throughout the airline’s global network.

“Some routes immediately feel significant, not simply because they connect two destinations but because of the opportunities they create. Calgary is one of those routes, said Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Airways.

“Whether guests are travelling for adventure in Canada, for business in Alberta’s dynamic economy, or to discover Abu Dhabi’s rich culture and attractions, we look forward to welcoming them with the warmth and care that define the Etihad experience and delivering an exceptional journey at every stage of their travels.”

Calgary is Etihad’s second Canadian destination and its westernmost gateway, complementing its established Toronto service. The airline says the new route reflects its continued investment in Canada and its plans to expand connections between the country, Abu Dhabi and markets across its global network.

Flights operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Flight EY29 departs Abu Dhabi at 2:25 a.m. and arrives in Calgary at 7 a.m. Flight EY30 departs Calgary at 1 p.m. and arrives in Abu Dhabi at 12:55 p.m. the following day.
