Etihad adds free medical travel insurance for guests flying to Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI — Etihad Airways and the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) Abu Dhabi have partnered to offer complimentary medical travel insurance to eligible international visitors flying to or through Abu Dhabi on Etihad-operated flights.

The new initiative, available for travel between July and December 2026, provides up to 15 days of medical coverage in the United Arab Emirates and is designed to enhance the visitor experience while supporting growing demand for the destination.

Under the program, insurance coverage is automatically included with eligible Etihad tickets and requires no separate application. The coverage is underwritten and administered by The National Insurance Company – Daman, part of PureHealth.

Eligible travellers include guests flying to Abu Dhabi on Etihad-operated services whose point of origin and point of sale are outside the UAE. Travellers taking advantage of Etihad’s complimentary Stopover Programme are also covered for the duration of their stay in Abu Dhabi. Terms and conditions apply.

The move comes as Abu Dhabi continues to see growing international interest as a leisure destination.

“Global interest in Abu Dhabi continues to grow, reflecting the destination’s unparalleled year-round cultural, tourism and entertainment offering. This initiative ensures we meet that demand with an exceptional, end-to-end visitor experience. Our partnership with Etihad will set a new benchmark for destination standards and ensure our guests feel welcomed, valued, and cared for from the moment they book,” said Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director General for Tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi.

Etihad said the new benefit removes one more barrier for travellers and adds value beyond the flight itself.

“Abu Dhabi is one of the most captivating destinations in the world, and our job is to make both getting here and being here as seamless as possible. Giving comprehensive medical insurance with every eligible Etihad ticket means our guests can focus entirely on experiencing the extraordinary Emirati hospitality Abu Dhabi has to offer. This is what it looks like when an airline and a destination truly invest in their visitors,” said Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Airways.

Abu Dhabi has continued to expand its tourism offerings in recent years, combining cultural attractions such as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Saadiyat Island with entertainment and leisure experiences on Yas Island. The destination is also a key component of Etihad’s growing stopover strategy, which encourages travellers to spend time in the emirate while connecting through the airline’s global network.
