Discover Airlines to launch nonstop Edmonton–Frankfurt service

EDMONTON — Germany is getting closer for Alberta travellers, with Discover Airlines launching nonstop flights between Edmonton and Frankfurt next summer.

Starting June 1, 2027, the Lufthansa Group airline will operate three weekly flights between Edmonton International Airport (YEG) and Frankfurt Airport, opening up new connections across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

“We are thrilled to bring Discover Airlines to Edmonton and expand Lufthansa Group’s offering in Canada,” said Dirk Janzen, Lufthansa Group Vice President of Passenger Sales, the Americas. “This new nonstop connection to Frankfurt gives travellers from Alberta direct access to one of Lufthansa Group’s key hubs and, from there, to our extensive global network. It is a strong example of the value of Lufthansa Group: bringing together leading airline brands, an expansive network, and high-quality products to give our customers greater choice and connectivity.”

The inaugural flight, 4Y070, is scheduled to depart Frankfurt at 1:05 p.m. on June 1, 2027, arriving in Edmonton at 2:30 p.m. The return flight, 4Y071, will depart Edmonton at 4:15 p.m. and arrive in Frankfurt at 9:05 a.m. the following day. All times are local.

THREE CABIN CLASSES

The route will be operated by an Airbus A330-300 with up to 283 seats: 30 in Business Class, 28 in Premium Economy and 225 in Economy.

Business Class features full lie-flat beds, with meals and beverages included. Premium Economy includes complimentary meals, non-alcoholic beverages and a selection of beer and wine. Economy passengers receive meals and soft drinks, with alcoholic beverages available for purchase.

All seats have personal entertainment screens and free, unlimited access to a selection of films and television shows. Internet access is available for purchase across all three classes.

Discover Airlines will gradually introduce its new Ocean Blue cabin across its long-haul Airbus A330 fleet starting in 2027. The airline also plans to equip its aircraft with Starlink high-speed internet in the future.

From Frankfurt, travellers can connect to destinations across Europe, Asia and the Middle East through the Lufthansa Group network, which includes Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines and Edelweiss. Connections are also available through Munich.

Discover Airlines also offers codeshare connections with United Airlines and Air Canada through its Atlantic Joint Venture. Passengers can collect and redeem miles through Miles & More and MileagePlus.
