CORNWALL, ENGLAND — Some of our favourite travellers are of the furry variety, with four legs and adorable mugs that would make any animal lover swoon. Remember Miss Rigby the Boat Kitty, who spends most of her time sailing on a yacht? Or how can we forget Mura, the terminally ill Japanese wolf dog, who embarked on an epic road trip with her beloved human?
The latest adorable pet to have been bitten by the travel bug is Bandit, a ferret from Cornwall, England that’s gained Internet fame after road-tripping to 11 countries. Accompanied by his human, 25-year-old Charles Hammerton, the travelling duo visited 25 cities over the course of eight months, in a campervan that Hammerton bought after quitting his job at the Royal Air Force and selling all his belongings.
Bandit, who Hammerton refers to as his “best friend”, was adopted from a rescue in 2015. A few years later, Hammerton experienced unthinkable loss with the deaths of three loved ones – his mother, his best friend, and his adopted mother – all within a short period of time.
After experiencing just how fleeting life is, Hammerton decided to finally embark on the dream trip he had always wanted to take, with his best friend coming along for the ride. The $20,000 he raised from selling his worldly possessions was enough to fund their eight-month journey around Europe.
