Nintendo theme for Universal’s Epic Universe, opening 2023

ORLANDO — Universal Orlando’s fourth theme park, Universal’s Epic Universe, will be Nintendo-themed.

Universal Orlando first announced plans a fourth theme park back in August 2019.

Executives of Comcast, which owns NBCUniversal, made the announcement during yesterday’s earnings call.

Slated to open in 2023, and featuring an entertainment centre, hotels, shops, restaurants and more, Universal’s Epic Universe will be located within a larger 750-acre site that nearly doubles Universal’s total available acreage in Central Florida. Its specific location will be just a few miles from the existing resort in Southwest Orange County, south of Sand Lake Road and east of Universal Boulevard.

Universal already operates Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, as well as the Volcano Bay water park, in Orlando. The company recently has been acquiring hundreds of acres of land near Orlando’s convention centre.

Universal also has theme parks in California, China, Japan and Singapore. A Nintendo park opens this year in Osaka, Japan, and one will be built in California.
