Fairmont signs management deal for its first hotel in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN — Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is taking over management of the El San Juan Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

After signing an agreement to assume management, the property will join Fairmont’s global portfolio of luxury hotels as Fairmont El San Juan Hotel on Jan. 2, 2020. This marks the first property in Puerto Rico for the luxury brand.

Upon joining the Fairmont family, the hotel will also become a part of ALL – Accord Live Limitless, Accor’s new lifestyle loyalty program making its global debut at the end of 2019. The program aims to deliver unprecedented value by integrating rewards, services and experiences throughout Accor.

The current ownership group, through ESJ Resort LLC, will continue to own El San Juan Hotel. From now through Jan. 2, 2020, the hotel will operate under the current brand and management team. Hotel ownership and Hilton will end the franchise agreement for El San Juan Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton effective 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 2, 2020.

The hotel’s existing reservations system will remain open through Jan. 2, and all reservations and event bookings for arrivals after this date will be honoured by Fairmont.

Located just minutes from Old San Juan and Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport, El San Juan features 388 guestrooms, suites and poolside and oceanfront villas. It also boasts a Well & Being spa and fitness centre, four pools with swimup bar and luxury cabanas, pro-level tennis court, watersport rentals and 13 food and beverage venues.

The hotel first opened on Feb. 1, 1958; by the 1960s, it became one of the island’s most visited destinations due to its superb oceanfront location, hosting such acclaimed guests as Sammy Davis Jr., Nat King Cole, Liza Minelli and Julio Iglesias.

El San Juan reopened in December 2018 following a US$65 million restoration that married its legendary past and old world elegance with a reimagined approach to luxury and wellness.
