Freedom of the Seas, not so much: four women arrested for drug smuggling

PORT CANAVERAL — Four women onboard Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas have been arrested for conspiracy to smuggle cocaine off the ship.

The vessel left port on May 8 sailing for destinations including Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Mexico. Arriving back at Port Canaveral on May 15, authorities discovered five clear vacuum-sealed packages secured to the underclothes of one of the women.

More than 6.6 kilograms of cocaine was eventually recovered from the four women, who were all dressed in loose-fitting muumuus. One of the women said she accepted the offer of a free cruise in exchange for bringing the cocaine into the U.S.
