PROVIDENCIALES — Sandals recently hosted its 13th annual Sandals Travel Agency Recognition event (the STAR Awards) at its newly expanded Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort & Spa.

The four-day event was attended by over 600 invited travel agents from Canada, the U.S. and South America.

The four-day event included a regional awards evening and a gala awards evening where travel agents were recognized for their sales achievements and contributions.

Agents also attended a morning workshop where Adam Stewart provided details of new properties, improvements and new features that have been added in the past year. He highlighted the two new properties – Sandals LaSource Grenada opening on Dec. 21, 2013 and its new property in Barbados.

The Barbados property will be developed in three stages. Stage 1 will include 280 rooms. A 440-room Beaches resort will start building in late 2014 with a planned opening for 2016. It will have the same elements as Beaches Turks & Caicos.

Stewart also highlighted many firsts that Sandals is introducing including Butch’s Chophouse debuting at Sandals LaSource, Grenada, the Southern Comfort restaurant in the Key West Village at Beaches Turks & Caicos, an Indian restaurant planned for Sandals Barbados, and room amenities like soaking tubs and balcony pools.

Stewart also announced that Sandals had just completed arrangements with the Government of Antigua to develop a new Beaches Resort in Antigua.

Site inspections were conducted on the property, including inspections of the recently-added Key West Village. Flights were also arranged for day visits and site inspections to Sandals Emerald Bay in the Bahamas and Sandals Grande Antigua.
