NEW YORK CITY — Fred Dixon is returning to NYC Tourism + Conventions as President and CEO, effective Dec. 1, following more than two years leading Brand USA.
Dixon previously served as President and CEO of NYC Tourism + Conventions, the official destination marketing organization (DMO) and convention and visitors bureau (CVB) for the five boroughs of New York City, from 2014 to 2024. He then joined Brand USA, the national destination marketing organization focused on growing international visitation to the U.S., as President and CEO.
During his previous tenure with NYC Tourism + Conventions, Dixon represented the city’s tourism industry with business leaders, elected officials, media and travel partners around the world, while working with stakeholders across all five boroughs.
In his new role, Dixon will lead efforts to promote New York City for leisure travel, meetings, conventions and events, while strengthening partnerships across the city’s tourism sector.
“My time at Brand USA gave me a broader perspective on the global travel marketplace and what’s required to be competitive for international travelers. I return to New York with that experience, along with a renewed appreciation for the strength of this city and the extraordinary people and businesses that make its visitor economy so vital.
“I look forward to working with our members, partners and City leadership to grow visitation, strengthen our global position and ensure tourism continues to deliver for all five boroughs.”
Charles Flateman, Board Chairman, NYC Tourism + Conventions, added: “Fred Dixon has the rare combination of foundational New York City expertise, national leadership experience and global perspective that this moment requires City.
“The Board conducted a thoughtful process to identify the leader best positioned to advance our mission, and Fred’s proven ability to elevate New York City’s global brand, build partnerships across the industry and understand the forces shaping international travel made him the right choice to lead NYC Tourism + Conventions into the future.”
Flateman will oversee NYC Tourism + Conventions on an interim basis alongside the organization’s Executive Leadership Team until Dixon takes up the role in December.
New York City welcomed approximately 65 million visitors last year, generating $55.6 billion in direct visitor spending. Tourism supports about 400,000 jobs and more than $7 billion in tax revenue across the five boroughs.
Earlier this summer, Brand USA announced its re-entry into Canada with its first-ever Travel Week event in the country this fall. Formerly known as Canada Connect, the event brings Brand USA’s Canadian travel trade and media engagement under its global Travel Week platform.
