Canadian government eases travel advisories for Jordan, UAE

OTTAWA — The federal government has updated its travel advice for Jordan and the UAE.

Jordan was initially hit with an Orange (Level 3) warning, with Canadians told to avoid all non-essential travel to Jordan, in the first days of the U.S. and Israel’s war against Iran in early March. The UAE also received an Orange level warning when the war broke out, later escalated to Red (Level 4).

With tensions now easing, the Canadian government has de-escalated its travel advice for both Jordan and UAE.

An update from Global Affairs Canada says the advisory levels for both Jordan and UAE are now Yellow (Level 2), ie. exercise a high degree of caution.

Ottawa notes there are still regional advisories in place for Jordan, with a Red (Level 4; avoid all travel) zone within five kilometres of the Iraq and Syria borders, and in northeastern Jordan.

The Canadian government also notes that “the security situation remains volatile” in the Middle East.
