Celestyal, MSC ships safely transit Strait of Hormuz

TORONTO — Celestyal and MSC Cruises have confirmed the safe transit of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz amid rising regional tensions.

CELESTYAL DISCOVERY & JOURNEY

On April 17, Celestyal Discovery, under the command of Captain Nikolaos Vasileiou, became the first cruise ship to depart the Arabian Gulf under a carefully coordinated plan developed with regional authorities and maritime security teams. The sailing established a viable route through the Strait, enabling other operators to follow.

A day later, on April 18, Celestyal Journey, led by Captain Angelos Vasilakos, transited the same passage while heading a broader convoy of cruise vessels departing the region along the same corridor.

Following the transit, both vessels are now repositioning to the Mediterranean, where they are expected to begin their summer deployment as scheduled. Celestyal added that all future sailings currently on sale will operate as planned, offering continuity for travellers and travel advisors.

MSC EURIBIA

MSC Cruises has also confirmed the safe passage of MSC Euribia through the Strait of Hormuz. The ship has departed Dubai and is now en route to Northern Europe, with the transit completed in close coordination with relevant authorities.

The line said MSC Euribia will resume its Northern Europe season, and, with the ship able to return earlier than anticipated, the May 16 departure from Kiel and May 17 sailing from Copenhagen will now operate as originally scheduled. All subsequent sailings are also expected to proceed as planned.

MSC Cruises noted that guests whose cruises were previously cancelled will have the option to transfer their booking to the May departure and will be contacted directly with further details.
