SEATTLE — Holland America Line has announced a sweeping fleet revitalization programme, marking the largest investment in guest experience in the company’s 153-year history.
Dubbed ‘Holland America Evolution’, the multi-year initiative will see six ships undergo extensive bow-to-stern upgrades, bringing features from the line’s Pinnacle Class ships to a broader portion of the fleet.
The programme will focus on expanding onboard choice, introducing new dining and bar venues, and reimagining key public spaces, alongside the addition of new stateroom and suite categories.
“Our guests have been very clear about what they love about our ships and what they want to see more of, and Holland America Evolution is our answer to that,” said Beth Bodensteiner, president, Holland America Line.
“This investment allows us to introduce experiences and venues that are new to the fleet, add Pinnacle Class favorites like Grand Dutch Café, and create new stateroom categories designed for the way people travel today, all while preserving the perfectly sized ship experience that defines Holland America.”

SIX SHIPS IN ALL
The Evolution programme will span four Vista Class ships – Oosterdam, Zuiderdam, Westerdam and Noordam – as well as two Signature Class ships, Nieuw Amsterdam and Eurodam.
The first ship to undergo the transformation will be Oosterdam, with its debut scheduled for fall 2027. Among the initial enhancements announced are the addition of the Grand Dutch Café – previously exclusive to Pinnacle Class ships – as well as a range of new accommodation types designed to reflect evolving traveller preferences.
In total, the cruise line will invest more than US$500 million into the upgrades, which will enhance guest spaces and add new accommodations, increasing overall capacity while maintaining the brand’s signature spacious feel.
The company is working with long-time shipbuilding partner Fincantieri on the project. Fincantieri built all 11 ships in Holland America’s fleet.
NEW ENHANCEMENTS
A major component of the Evolution programme is the expansion and redesign of staterooms and suites.
Oosterdam alone will add 76 new staterooms, including several new categories. These include purpose-built Solo Verandahs for solo travellers, each featuring a private balcony and dedicated workspace, as well as new Bridgeview Suites offering 180-degree ocean views, wraparound balconies and 900 square feet of living space.
The ship will also introduce a reimagined Pinnacle Suite, the largest ever on a Vista Class vessel at 1,550 square feet, along with 24 new Vista Suites, previously only available on Pinnacle Class ships.
As part of the enhancements, the Grand Dutch Café will also be introduced on additional ships, beginning with Oosterdam. Inspired by European café culture and the line’s Dutch heritage, the café offers a relaxed, all-day gathering space and has consistently ranked among guest favourites.

Sustainability will play an important role throughout the refurbishment programme. Holland America says it will prioritize waste reduction and circular design principles, including upcycling and material reuse, while updating interiors. Technical upgrades will also be implemented behind the scenes to improve energy efficiency, including enhanced power management systems aimed at reducing overall carbon intensity.
Additional information on Oosterdam’s renovations, including post-refit itineraries, will be released in the coming weeks, with further updates on the remaining ships to follow as the programme progresses.
