Grenada’s star continues to rise with new CEO Stacey Liburd

TORONTO — Grenada is flying high from Canada, with direct flights on both Air Canada and WestJet.

With the rising popularity of the Spice Isle, who knows what other airlines might jump onboard?

As Porter’s expansion continues in leaps and bounds, Stacey Liburd, the brand new CEO of the Grenada Tourism Authority, says the airline is definitely on her radar.

“We are very interested in talking to Porter,” Liburd told Travelweek at last night’s Grenada Tourism Authority event at Vantage Venues in downtown Toronto.

Liburd is well-versed in the importance of securing lift, thanks to her years as director of tourism for the Anguilla Tourism Board. “Today’s traveller wants ease of travel, and that means direct flights,” she said.

Liburd has been with the GTA just five weeks, after taking over from Petra Roach, who stepped down from the CEO role after four years to work in the private sector. Roach is now director of sales and marketing for Wyndham Grand Barbados Sam Lord’s Castle All-Inclusive Resort.

Despite her short tenure with the Grenada Tourism Authority, Liburd already speaks about the Caribbean island with ease, warmth and authenticity, and credits her team for their help and support. The Grenada Tourism Authority’s Director of Sales, Canada, Sekou Stroude, was in attendance at last night’s event, as was Randall Dolland, Chairman, and Tornia Charles, Director of Sales and Marketing.

Earlier yesterday Liburd and the team met with partners Air Canada and ACV, and came away with positive feedback on the increasingly strong YYZ-GND route.

In April 2025 Air Canada announced expanded seasonal nonstop service between Toronto and Grenada, with the addition of a second weekly flight that took off June 2. The new Monday service complements the existing Sunday flight and will run through Aug. 31.

WestJet’s direct weekly YYZ-GND service is also seasonal, operating December through April.

“Grenada is steeped in culture and heritage. As soon as you step off the plane you feel the national pride and you experience the warmth of the people,” says Liburd.

“It’s no wonder so many people choose Grenada year after year, when there are so many other options.”
