Spotted! These are the Canadian cities with the most UFO sightings

TORONTO — People travel for all different reasons, from romance, relaxation and adventure to the downright weird and wacky (did you know bat tourism is a real thing?). But one particular niche is rising in the ranks among travellers in search of unique travel experiences, and that’s UFO tourism.

With reports of UFO (Unidentified Flying Objects) and UAP (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena) sightings increasing in mainstream media, so too is interest among travellers in the pursuit of all things extraterrestrial. Popular UFO festivals like the one in Roswell, New Mexico (the largest in the U.S.) and McMinnville, Oregon (the second largest) attract oddity-seekers from around the world, while a growing number of UFO-inspired hotels (you gotta check out Treehotel’s treehouse in Sweden) is also fanning the flames of E.T. fever.

But with Canada having a moment in domestic travel right now, UFO chasers are being called to experience other-worldly adventures here in their own backyard. Sightings of unexplainable objects in the sky are regularly reported in major cities across the country (over 1,000 each year!), giving travellers a new reason to visit some of Canada’s top destinations.

So where in Canada gives you the best chance at spotting a UFO? According to a new study by Casino Days, Toronto tops the list with 283 UFO sightings to date and an average duration of 9.84 minutes per visit. Calgary trails behind with 161 sightings and an average duration of 13.86 minutes, followed by Vancouver (158 sightings, 12.78 minutes) and Ottawa (139 sightings, 9.90 minutes) rounding out the top five.

Also making it to the list are Montreal in the #6 spot (119 sightings, 15.35 minutes), Winnipeg in seventh (118 sightings, 14.27 minutes), Victoria in eighth (106 sightings, 9.11 minutes), London in ninth (79 sightings, 7.03 minutes) and, finally, Saskatoon coming in at #10 with 74 sightings to date and the longest average duration of per visit at 20.32 minutes!

But that’s not all – Casino Days also ranked the Canadian provinces most likely to survive an alien invasion. Without Will Smith or Tom Cruise to save the day, these cities must rely on their military strength, food supply, freshwater access and population density to withstand a War-of-the-Worlds-esque attack. So, if/when the day comes that extraterrestrials scour the earth, Casino Days suggests running for the hills to Quebec, which boasts a survivability score of 7.96 out of 10. Ontario comes in a close second with a sore of 7.51, followed by Manitoba (7.44), Alberta (7.08) and Newfoundland and Labrador (7.06).

This may sound a bit kooky but for many travellers (and potential clients), it’s all weirdly wonderful. So, next time a client requests an out-of-this-world vacation, tell them Canada will be hard to beat.
