PUERTO WILLIAMS, CHILE — It’s been a celebration of the ages onboard the Silver Endeavour this week, following its official blessing ceremony in Puerto Williams.

Taking place on Nov. 15 at the Cape Horn Sub-Antarctic Center in Puerto Williams, the ceremony was attended by Silversea executives, Chilean tourism officials, local leaders as well as clergy members.

Travelweek is also onboard taking part in festivities as part of an epic voyage to Antarctica, which also includes a crossing of the Drake Passage.

“The Endeavour is the world’s most luxurious expedition vessel and we’re thrilled to officially welcome our 11th ship to the Silversea fleet,” said Jason Liberty, President and CEO of Silversea’s parent company, Royal Caribbean Group. “Acquiring Silver Endeavour marks a milestone that is near and dear to my heart. It has been a spectacular addition to our fleet and reflects our commitment to offering the best vacation experiences to our guests in a responsible manner.”

Liberty also noted that the Silver Endeavour is the third Silversea ship to be named in just 10 months, following Silver Origin and Silver Dawn, “a rare occurrence and something the team should be very proud of.”

Considered one of the world’s most advanced and luxurious expedition vessels, Silver Endeavour will undertake 12 voyages to Antarctica starting Nov. 21, 2022, ranging from 5-20 days and including Silversea’s Antarctica Bridge fly-cruise sailings as well as an extended ‘Deep South’ expedition and a new 10-day Antarctic Peninsula voyage.

Silver Endeavour

Built to PC6 polar class specifications, the Silver Endeavour is designed specifically for polar exploration. It boasts cutting-edge navigation and exploration technology, including a remote gimbal camera system that can capture high-quality images from 5 kilometres.

Onboard, guests will find seven suite categories, including some of the most spacious accommodations in expedition cruising, spread over eight public decks. There are also multiple restaurants, bars and lounges, an expansive spa, a two-storey solarium with a swimming pool and whirlpool, an array of indoor and outdoor observation areas, and a crew-to-guest ratio of approximately 1:1.

During the voyage, Silversea also announced the relaunch of ‘My Silversea,’ its premier online portal for managing sailings. Retaining all the usual features in the same place, the redesigned portal is now more consistent with Silversea.com, with enhanced aesthetics characteristic of the Silversea brand. With ‘My Silversea,’ guests can view all their bookings in one convenient location and complete the ‘Guest Information’ required before embarking on the cruise, including selecting any personal requirements such as dietary preferences, assistance and special occasions. They can also request a brochure, access information about Silversea’s loyalty program, Venetian Society, review visited ports via the ‘Journal,’ and subscribe to the ‘Sail with us’ referral promotion to benefit from exclusive discounts.

During the blessing ceremony, Silversea also announced that it has sponsored a physical education integration program for disabled children at the Puerto Williams School in Puerto Williams, Chile. As the only cruise line to be operating out of the remote Chilean town, Silversea is laser focused on fostering positive long-term relationships with the local community. As such, it has also donated four Zodiacs to the Cedena Nautical School in Puerto Williams, a non-profit organization dedicated to training and educating children and young people in nautical sports.

“An important gateway to Antarctica, Puerto Williams is a key destination for Silversea and it is always our goal to positively impact the local communities we visit,” said Conrad Combrink, Senior Vice President of Expeditions, Destination and Itinerary Management for Silversea Cruises. “Building this facility is just the first step in our commitment to supporting the social needs of Puerto Williams.”
