“Significant increases” to summer 2023 schedule, says WestJet

WestJet marks highest single-day passenger count since the pandemic started

CALGARY — WestJet has marked a major milestone in its pandemic recovery.

Yesterday, April 3, WestJet saw its highest single-day guest count since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

WestJet CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech said the airline flew an estimated 48,000 guests on more than 450 flights.

“Today’s milestone is a direct reflection of our guest’s desire to return to the skies and their renewed confidence in air travel,” said von Hoensbroech. “This is a strong signal for demand and the recovery of our industry as we look ahead to the busy summer travel season.”

He added: “I want to extend my gratitude and thanks to our WestJetters and service partners who have continued to demonstrate an exceptional level of care to our guests as they take to the skies once again.”

WestJet released its summer 2022 schedule two weeks ago, with a restored network to near pre-pandemic levels.

At the height of the summer season WestJet will offer 43 domestic, 23 transborder, 16 Caribbean and eight transatlantic destinations. That amounts to 94% of WestJet’s pre-pandemic routes with 600+ daily departures network-wide.
