SAN FRANCISCO — Registration has opened for WeTravel’s upcoming webinar on ‘Women In Travel: Empowering Your Community.”
Taking place March 22 at noon EST, this free, global, one-hour webinar is designed to promote the ongoing, collaborative discussion on better representation in the travel industry. Four influential women-in-travel panelists will be discussing how to support better representation in business, operations and communities, as well as how equity and inclusivity will underpin the growth of the industry as travel recovers.
“Over the past two years, we’ve grappled with the discouraging data that women – and many BIPOC-owned businesses – in the hospitality and tourism industries have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic,” said Keri Pfeiffer, WeTravel’s head of account management and webinar host. “As an industry, it’s our duty to do more than simply encourage equity in tourism’s recovery, but to do all we can to better represent the businesses and communities that need travellers most through our business models, strategies and operations.”
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly 50% of job loss in the pandemic’s first year was experienced by women. In addition, a U.S. survey reported by Bloomberg found that nearly 75% of BIPOC-owned small businesses that were surveyed noted that the pandemic continues to have a significant impact on operations. Of those respondents, nearly 50% were in the leisure and hospitality sectors.
