Celebrity reports two positive COVID-19 cases onboard the Millennium

MIAMI — Two passengers onboard the Celebrity Millennium, Celebrity Cruises’ first ship to resume operations since the start of the pandemic, have tested positive for COVID-19.

The ship departed St. Maarten on June 5 for a seven-night Caribbean voyage with fully vaccinated crew and passengers onboard. The two passengers, both of whom were asymptomatic and shared a stateroom, are currently in isolation and being monitored by the ship’s medical team. In addition, Celebrity said in an official statement that it is “conducting contact tracing” and “expediting testing for all close contacts.”

The company added: “All guests on Celebrity Millennium were required to show proof of vaccination as well as a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours before sailing from St. Maarten this past Saturday. This situation demonstrates that our rigorous health and safety protocols work to protect our crew, guests and the communities we visit.”

As part of its Healthy at Sea Protocols, all guests 16 years and older are required to be fully vaccinated prior to boarding. This age minimum will go down to 12 and older on Aug. 1. Celebrity is also requiring all guests to complete a health questionnaire prior to boarding, while unvaccinated children must take a complimentary test at the terminal. An additional test will be administered onboard, free of charge, if required for homeport or home country re-entry.

Approximately 500 passengers are onboard the Celebrity Millennium, which is visiting Barbados, Aruba and Curaçao during its seven-day cruise.
