Wintery weather disrupts flights in Toronto, Chicago

TORONTO — Monday morning Torontonians woke up to the first significant snowfall of the season, causing some delays at Pearson and Billy Bishop airports. Similarly, while in Chicago over the weekend, thousands of flights were cancelled due to a strong winter storm that continues to impact service this morning.

As of 10:00 AM EST, flightaware.com was showing 25 cancelled flights at Toronto’s Pearson airport, plus another 55 flights delayed.

Billy Bishop Airport in downtown Toronto said on Twitter “weather may result in delays and cancellations. Please check with your airline for flight status and updates.” The airport has called in the snowplows to get the runways cleared quickly.

In Chicago, thousands of flights were cancelled after two days of heavy winter snow at both major international airports. Flightaware.com is showing 24 cancellations and 37 delays continuing into Monday morning at O’Hare.

Snowy conditions are expected to affect the Canadian Maritime provinces today.
