What’s open, what’s closed in Paris as rising Seine leads to floods

PARIS — Paris tourism officials have issued a list of suspensions and closures in the wake of rapidly rising floodwaters from the River Seine.

“Due to the current high water levels of the River Seine, roads along the riverbanks are closed to pedestrians. The Voie Georges Pompidou between the Garigliano and Bir-Hakeim bridges, the road under the Pont National and the Tuileries underpass are inaccessible to cars and motorcycles,” says the Paris CVB.

“The stations on the RER C line (Saint-Michel Notre Dame, Musée d’Orsay, Invalides, Champ de Mars, Avenue du Président Kennedy and Boulainvilliers) will be closed at least from 24 to 26 January 2018.”

Here are more updates from the Paris CVB’s website:

  • The Vedettes du Pont Neuf have cancelled their cruises until Jan. 25 inclusive.
  • The Vedettes de Paris have cancelled their cruises until Jan. 25 inclusive.
  • The Batobus river shuttle service is suspended until further notice.
  • The Bateaux Parisiens have cancelled their sightseeing as well as dining cruises until Jan. 26 inclusive.
  • The Bateaux Mouches have cancelled all their cruises until further notice.
  • The Marina has cancelled its cruises until further notice.

Water levels continue to rise and officials now say the Seine could surpass 6.10 metres, the 2016 record and more than four metres higher than normal.

According to reports in The Guardian, representatives from the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay say they will move works of art in storage if and when the Seine reaches 5.08 metres.
