WestJet to charge for first bags on more flights, exit row seats

CALGARY — WestJet is charging for checked baggage and advance seat selection in the exit row on economy fares to Europe and sun destinations for bookings made from Nov. 3, 2015 onward for travel on or after Jan. 6, 2016. Bookings made before Nov. 3 are not affected.

First bag fees will now apply to passengers travelling to Mexico, Caribbean, Central America and Europe, as well as on domestic and transborder routes. Clients who buy a WestJet Vacations package or make a group booking to Mexico, Caribbean, Central America or Europe will continue to be able to check a first bag at no charge.

You can also check a first-bag at no charge if you are travelling on a Flex or Plus fare (one free checked bag for Flex, two for Plus); are either a Silver or Gold Rewards member and are WestJet RBC World Elite MasterCard primary cardholders and up to eight additional guests on the same reservation.

For seat selection, fees will be for those who book on or after Jan. 6, 2016.
