WestJet set to update its fare bundles, change fees; commissions stay the same

CALGARY — Starting Jan. 17 WestJet’s Econo bundle will include more fare classes, change fees will be based on origin, and destination and Flex fares will offer added value.

Lyell Farquharson, WestJet Vice-President Sales and Sales Incentive Programs, said that while the airline is implementing these new updates, “we are pleased to share that we are not changing travel agent commission rates”.

“Our travel agent partners contribute greatly to WestJet’s success, and we will continue to reward agents for their hard work by offering the same base commission,” said Farquharson.

The following changes take effect on Jan.17:

  • WestJet’s L and Q fare classes will move from the Flex fare bundle to the Econo fare bundle. Base commission rates will not change due to L and Q moving from Flex to Econo.
  • Tickets booked on a Flex fare bundle will enjoy pre-reserved seating for regular seats at no charge (exit row seats are available for a fee).
  • Change fees will be based on region. WestJet says it will continue to be “competitive in the marketplace”, as fees will still be charged per person, per transaction for all regions.

There will be no change to Plus, WestJet’s Premium Economy. “With benefits like extra leg and elbow room, two checked bags, no change or cancellation fees and more, Plus continues to offer the best value.” To learn more about the changes see westjettravelagents.com.
