WestJet passengers can now submit bids for seat upgrades

CALGARY — WestJet has a new bidding tool that allows passengers to upgrade their seats to Business or Premium on available flights.

With the online tool, at any time after booking a flight and up to five days before departure, clients can submit an offer to upgrade. After an offer has been submitted, they can modify or cancel the offer if it has not been accepted up to five days before their flight. Credit cards will not be charged until the offer has been accepted.

WestJet will confirm whether the offer has been accepted no later than five days prior to departure. If accepted, passengers will be able to select their seat in an upgraded cabin at time of check-in, 24 hours prior to departure.

Although passengers will be seated in either Premium or Business when their upgrade is accepted, the fare conditions of their original ticket will remain unchanged, including cancellation policies, flight change and same day change fees. If their Premium upgrade offer is accepted, the baggage allowance of their original fare will apply to their upgraded flight. If their Business upgrade offer is accepted, they may check up to a maximum of two checked bags.

If the offer is not accepted, their credit card will not be charged and they’ll keep the seat they have.

Upgrades to Premium cabin will include such perks as priority check-in and boarding, extra leg and elbow room, a globally-inspired menu, elevated snack and beverage options and more.

On 787 Dreamliner flights to and from Europe, an upgrade will include a welcome beverage, access to a social area where refreshments and snacks are served, a Rocky Mountain Soap amenity kit and more.

A Business cabin upgrade on WestJet’s 787 Dreamliner will include priority check-in, two checked bags, lounge access at the airport, in-flight pods with fully extendable privacy screens and more.

Lastly, on 787 Dreamliner flights to and from Europe will include a welcome beverage, lie-flat seats with luxurious blankets and pillows, dine anytime service with a selection of refined dishes, Matt & Nat amenity kit and more.
