WestJet Group’s yet-to-be ratified agreement with ALPA includes Swoop condition: report

TORONTO — The yet-to-be ratified agreement between WestJet Group and the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) reportedly includes what could be the beginning of the end of Swoop.

According to a CityNews report, the agreement between WestJet Group and the pilots union includes the condition that Swoop must be fully integrated into WestJet by October 2024.

The low-cost carrier’s first flights took off in 2018.

The collective bargaining agreement between the WestJet Group and the ALPA, hammered out just hours before the strike deadline that would have seen WestJet Group pilots walk off the job on May 19, has yet to be ratified. Both sides are awaiting the ratification vote to be put forward to ALPA membership.
