U.S. network misses the mark on Banff map by 3,000 miles

SAN FRANCISCO – Where in the world is Banff National Park? Turns out it’s right next to Ottawa, says an American news station.

FOX-owned KTVU, which services the Bay Area in California, made the snafu on air during a news report about a recent avalanche at the park. The report was accompanied by a map that pinpointed the park as near Ottawa – more than 3,000 kilometres away from its actual location in Alberta.

The moment was caught on camera by viewer Don Kollins who then posted a short clip to Twitter. He wrote: “Hey KTVU – you may want to check a map of Canada and see where Banff is actually located.”

His tweet prompted tons of hilarious responses from other Twitter users.

Fox TV spokeswoman Victoria Guerrieri told HuffPost Canada that the network “deeply regrets the error.”
