AUCKLAND — Air New Zealand has issued a travel alert for Fiji with a possibility of a category 3 cyclone expected to hit the region on Thursday and Friday.

The alert states:

“There is currently possibility of a Category 3 Tropical Cyclone over Fiji which may affect flights into and out of the region on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 February.

Fiji Airways is currently stating that today’s flights will not be disrupted, but it may change later in the week:

“Tropical Cyclone Ula continues in a westerly direction away from Fiji and is unlikely to have any further significant impact on us. There are no anticipated flight disruptions due to weather for today.

The weather system may turn northerly, as forecasts indicate, towards the end of the week. We will continue to observe the situation and will provide updates on any affected flights as the week progresses. “
