TORONTO — Two well-known names in travel are gearing up to say goodbye, for now – but both say they plan to stay in the industry as independent consultants.
Elvi Cal and Lina Côté are retiring this summer, with Cal’s departure set for July 31, and Côté’s on June 30.

Nathalie Tanious, President & CEO of H.I.S. Canada Travel Inc. (parent company of TravelBrands) announced the news this morning.
“I truly believe that the success of any organization is built on the strength of its people, and today we honour two of the greatest I’ve had the privilege of working with throughout my career. Elvi and Lina’s commitment, passion, and leadership have not only shaped who we are, but also paved the way for where we’re headed,” said Tanious.
She added: “Their legacy is woven into every success we’ve achieved, and their influence will continue to resonate long after they’ve moved on. It has been a joy to work alongside them, and I know I speak for everyone when I say that our accomplishments are deeply tied to their contributions.”
Tanious thanked Cal and Côté “for everything you’ve given us. I wish you both a retirement filled with relaxation, joy, and, of course, travel.”
Currently TravelBrands’ Senior Vice President, Product & Commercial, and with the company for 38 years, Cal has been a cornerstone of TravelBrands, spearheading product innovation, building strategic partnerships, and leading with integrity and passion, said Tanious.
She added that Cal’s deep expertise and collaborative approach have played a pivotal role in defining TravelBrands’ success. “For many, Elvi has not only been a leader but also a mentor and a trusted colleague. While Elvi will retire from his full-time position, he will continue to support TravelBrands as an independent consultant. His continued involvement will provide invaluable insights and ensure that the strong relationships he built over the years are sustained.”
Côté, Director of Sales, TravelBrands, has been with the company for 23 years. “Lina has been an inspiration to all who have had the privilege of working with her. Throughout her 43- year career in the travel industry, with nearly half of that time spent at TravelBrands, she has been a steadfast advocate for travel agents. Known for her calm demeanour and results-driven approach, Lina has earned the respect of her colleagues and peers alike. Her dedication to supporting and empowering travel agents, along with her genuine care for people and deep respect for the travel industry, have been central to her success.”
In her retirement Côté will also continue to contribute as an independent consultant.
“TravelBrands would like to extend its heartfelt thanks for their dedication, hard work, and the lasting legacies they leave behind. Their influence has touched not only TravelBrands but the travel industry as a whole. We invite all industry partners, travel agents, and friends to join us in celebrating their careers. Share your congratulations, reflect on meaningful moments, and help us honour Elvi and Lina by wishing them continued success, joy, and fulfillment in their well-earned upcoming retirement,” says the company.
The announcement also noted that updates about new appointments and leadership responsibilities will follow.
