MONTREAL — A proposed class-action lawsuit has been filed in Quebec Superior Court against several major travel companies over allegations that advertised vacation-package prices were not honoured, according to CTV News.

The application names Air Canada Vacations, Transat, Sunwing Vacations, WestJet Vacations, Voyages Bergeron and Voyages à Rabais.

The proposed class action seeks compensatory and punitive damages on behalf of Quebec residents who booked travel on or around Sept. 1, only to have the price later increased or the reservation cancelled because of an alleged pricing error.

Montreal-based Lambert Avocats, the law firm behind the application, told CTV News that the companies allegedly failed to comply with provisions of Quebec’s Civil Code and Consumer Protection Act governing contracts, advertised prices and representations to consumers.

The case stems from a complaint by a Quebec traveller who said they booked an all-inclusive Mexico package through Voyages Bergeron for approximately $700, including Air Transat flights. The traveller said the booking was confirmed but cancelled later that evening.

According to the law firm, the traveller subsequently learned that other Quebec consumers had encountered similar situations, prompting the legal action.
