TORONTO — Intrepid Travel has launched an emergency fundraising appeal through The Intrepid Foundation following catastrophic flash flooding in Nepal, with the company committing to match donations up to AUD$100,000.

The appeal is being run in partnership with Australian Red Cross, which is supporting relief efforts on the ground in affected communities including Timure, Rasuwagadhi, Syabrubesi and along the Trishuli River corridor.

Funds raised through the appeal will support emergency shelter, water sanitation and hygiene, first aid and health services.

More than 300 people have died, over one thousand remain missing and thousands more have been affected. The flooding has damaged homes, businesses, roads and critical infrastructure.

Intrepid has a significant presence in Nepal, operating 26 itineraries in the country with a local team of 463 people, including office employees, tour leaders, porters and assistant guides.

The company says no Intrepid customers or team members were in the affected regions at the time of the flooding and all travellers currently in the country have been safely accounted for.

“The scale of this disaster is devastating. Communities across the region are grieving the loss of loved ones while also facing significant challenges in the weeks and months ahead,” said Yalamber Rai, General Manager, Nepal, Intrepid Travel. “Support will be critical to recovery efforts, and we are encouraging anyone who is able to donate to the appeal or help spread the word. Together, we can help ensure affected communities receive the support they need during this incredibly difficult time.”
