Sunwing’s Cuba flights start in October and November from gateways across Canada

TORONTO — Sunwing will offer weekly flights to Varadero and Cayo Coco starting in October and November from several gateways across Canada including Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Edmonton.

Sunwing’s announcement comes as Cuba prepares to ease restrictions for travellers entering the country, effective Nov. 15, 2021.

As winter progresses Sunwing expects to add more Canadian departure gateways and popular Cuban destinations, to reflect evolving consumer demand.

“We’re thrilled to be helping our customers head back to the sunny shores of Cuba this fall under our wing,” says Andrew Dawson, President of Tour Operations at Sunwing.

“Cuba has been an integral part of our operations ever since our inaugural flight took off from Toronto to Varadero in 2005. Our Cuba program has continued to grow since then, and has been one of our most popular destinations over the past decade. The resort towns of Varadero and Cayo Coco both offer serene beach locations and secluded tourist areas for a relaxing retreat, away from the hustle and bustle of larger cities.”

As reported yesterday, all of Cuba’s tourist destinations will reopen by Nov. 15, plus the Ministry of Tourism of Cuba has announced more relaxed entry protocols effective the same date. There will be no COVID-19 test requirement prior to entering Cuba and no PCR test requirement upon arrival at the airport, according to the Cuba Tourist Board.

Canadian travellers arriving in Cuba must show that they are fully vaccinated or, if they are not vaccinated, they must submit a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before entering Cuba.

The PCR test Canadians need to re-enter back in Canada is done at the hotels and it costs US$30.
