Porter adds Winnipeg and St. John’s to YYZ network

TORONTO — Porter Airlines is expanding its wings with two new routes out of Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), both launching in September.

Service to Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG) will begin on Sept. 7, 2023, with two daily roundtrip flights. The route will operate with 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, and will also connect to Porter’s Eastern Canada network out of YYZ, including Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax. Introductory roundtrip fares start at $177.

“Winnipegers will soon have access to Porter’s elevated economy experience, an option that doesn’t exist in Winnipeg today,” said Kevin Jackson, executive vice president and chief commercial officer, Porter Airlines. “Porter has been recognized as having the best cabin service in North America, and we provide that award-winning service to every passenger at highly competitive fares.”

Also launching on Sept. 7 on Embraer E195-E2 aircraft is service between YYZ and St. John’s International Airport (YYT), with one daily nonstop roundtrip flight. The route will also connect Porter’s east coast network to its new west coast destinations via Toronto Pearson, including Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg. Introductory roundtrip fares start at $396.

“St. John’s has been an important destination in our Eastern Canada network for many years. With the introduction of the E195 to our fleet and nonstop service to Toronto Pearson, Porter now connects St. John’s from coast to coast,” added Jackson.

St. John’s has been part of Porter’s network since 2009, operating on the De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft. Existing routings will continue with access to Halifax, Ottawa, Montreal and Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, among others.

Porter’s onboard experience includes complimentary beer and wine served in real glassware, a selection of premium snacks, free streaming Wi-Fi and no middle seats. The all-inclusive PorterReserve fare includes fresh, healthy meals as well as the ability to change flights without a fee, dedicated check-in, extra legroom, and two checked bags. For those who want to choose specific features to fit their needs, the PorterClassic fare offers these same perks à la carte.

Earlier this week, Porter confirmed 10 additional E195-E2s are on the way, with deliveries beginning later this year. These aircraft are part of a previously announced confirmed order for 50 E195-E2s and the option to purchase 50 additional aircraft. Currently, 11 E195-E2s are flying with Porter today.
